Corona had arrived with full impact so I could not start my planned 2020 YesTrip. Campings were all closed and ofcourse the bombeiros (firefighters) would not host me. If I would start cycling now I would have to wildcamp every day for months, or maybe even longer.
The appartment owner made me a special offer (€ 120 rent plus € 70 for energy per month) to extend my stay and all I actually could do was to stay. All airports and all borders were also closed so he had no new bookings anyway and the only one he did have was canceled. We agreed to handle the situation on a flexible basis and for the time being we both were "happy" with this.
I bought a lot of very tasty mini snacktomatos, and one day this beautiful Tomato King surprised me.
It is was about 3cms "heigh" but it managed to impress me for some 3mts heigh.
Another variation of YesNature !
Although I don't have the slightest idea whether it is grown in any environmental saving way.
That is, I have no idea but I do have a feeling ...
Almost every day I made a walk to the centre or to the beach, or to both. Temperatures during the daytime always were about 18C to 22C 🎵, it was always sunny and it never rained except for maybe two times over some two hours.
An impression of Figueira town. The seagulls are so brutal that they start eating your bolo (pastry) right away as soon as you walk inside to order another coffee. You can have the prato del dia (menu or plate of the day) everywhere and it ranges from € 5 to € 8, depending on the number of courses (1, 2 or 3) and number of drinks included (1 or 2).
You can also have a nice soup del dia everywhere and they cost some € 1.50. In shoppingmalls you will even find specialized soupbars where they serve soupmenus 😋. Yeah, Portugese love soup, and so do I.
And what is rather typical : in no café, cafetaria and restaurant is salt and pepper available. Which is oké to me then I don't use (extra) salt, sugar and hard fat for 20+ years. All food therefor tastes a bit flat to many foreigners since Portugese kitchens hardly use salt. But this is just a matter of (not) being used to. The average person consumes some double amount of salt of what is considered to be healthy, let alone concerning sugar.
If you do your best to have a healthy life you still won't have any guarantee to also have it. But if you don't do your best to have a healthy life you do have the guarantee to not have it.
In the above pictureshow this picture shows up which I took from a wall in a parc :
It is a very nice one since it shows you the basis how computers started talking about 50 years ago. They did so by using 8-bit "words" and they actually still do, and such a 8-bit word is called a (one) Byte. Being a 32-bits or a 64-bits computer just means it can handle (understand) longer words now. One bit can (only) have the value of either 0 or 1, and this way of counting is called the hexadecimal system. The table below shows you how to convert a hexadecimal value into the corresponding human decimal value. For reason of simplicity this example concerns a 4-bits word (so which does not exist actually).
Hexadecimal 🔽 | 2³ | 2² | 2¹ | 2⁰ | Decimal 🔽 |
1100 = | 1 x 8 | + 1 x 4 | + 0 x 2 | + 0 x 1 | = 12 |
1101 = | 1 x 8 | + 1 x 4 | + 0 x 2 | + 1 x 1 | = 13 |
1011 = | 1 x 8 | + 0 x 4 | + 1 x 2 | + 1 x 1 | = 11 |
0011 = | 0 x 8 | + 0 x 4 | + 1 x 2 | + 1 x 1 | = 3 |
Which is not important at all 😉 since computers will keep on using the 8-bits system and not the decimal (human) system. But this picture shows that the person who wrote this probably knows what he/she is talking about. And it was not me. But now you know what it means if you see a range of 0 - 255 in ie a photoeditor : a Byte has 8 bits, so 2⁸ bits. Which is 256 bits and they make for a range of 0 - 255 possibilities.
Hexadecimal 🔽 | Decimal 🔽 |
1111 1111 = | 255 |
0000 0000 = | 0 |
If you have a 32bits computer it means it can handle (4 bytes which is) 4.228.250.625 "situations". And the 64bits versions can handle 4.228.250.625 x 4.228.250.625 "situations". Which is ? Euuhhh ....
Colors exist of a RGB combination then all colors are made up of red, green and blue. Computers use 8 bits to determine all variations of each of those three colors and so the range is 2⁸ red bits x 2⁸ green bits x 2⁸ blue bits. If all 8 + 8 + 8 bits are 1 the color whill be white. If all 8 + 8 + 8 bits are 0 the color whill be black. Any inbetween combination will create an inbetween color. That is why you might notice a remark of having 16.777.216 colors "in your computer".
And an impression of the beach. I don't like (sandy) beaches since I find them rather (Very) boring. In fact I was not even on the beach, I never left the tarmac 😎. But on stormy days they make for some nice pictures. You will hardly find any person(s) on these pictures, I suppose real beachlovers are too afraid to be blown away.
I visited a chinese buffet which was the worst I ever had. So a few weeks later I compensated for that by having a chinese menu a la carte which was oké. But the weird thing is that all chinese restaurants in this area are owned by the same chinese family. I guess they never visit there own buffet themselfs 😎.
Portugal is known for it's beautiful tilestableaus. You can find them all over the country and here are some nice ones from Figueira.
There was a rally announced but the related website was awfully bad. I still decided to have a look and there indeed was some activity. Unfortunately there were only amateurs contending and they were not producing a whole lot of smoke 😁.
The question here is : what's so special about (all) cars attending an event like this ? Then they all differ to all cars you are used to ! Tip : that has to do with the wheels.
And all those trips resulted once more in an awfull lot of "work".
And last but not least : I finally managed to make one more timelapse of the sun sinking in the sea (instead of into the clouds).
And this is was the Anniversary Dinner I had at june, 22 to celebrate my 2 years of YesTrip.
To corona or not to corona, that's the real question !
